BACKGROUND Multidrug-resistant Salmonella serovar Concord infections have been reported from children adopted from Ethiopia. We interviewed patients, characterized the isolates, and gathered information about adoptions from Ethiopia to assess public health implications. METHODS Information about Salmonella Concord cases and adoptions were provided from Austria, Denmark, England (and Wales), I...
متن کاملMultidrug resistant Salmonella Concord is a major cause of salmonellosis in children in Ethiopia.
INTRODUCTION S. Concord in Ethiopia. The objective of this study was to determine the aetiology of febrile and diarrhoeic illness in Ethiopian children focussing on Salmonella. METHODOLOGY Paediatric patients (n = 1,225) presenting with diarrhoea or fever from the paediatric outpatient department of Tikur Anbessa University Hospital, Addis Ababa (n = 825), and Jimma University Hospital, South...

OBJECTIVES To characterize plasmids and resistance genes of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella Senftenberg and Salmonella Concord isolated from patients in the Netherlands. METHODS The resistance genes of four MDR Salmonella isolates (three Salmonella Concord and one Salmonella Senftenberg) were identified by miniaturized microarray, PCR and sequencing. Plasmids were characterized by S1 nuc...
متن کاملGenetic Influences on Incidence and Case-Fatality of Infectious Disease
BACKGROUND Family, twin and adoption studies suggest that genetic susceptibility contributes to familial aggregation of infectious diseases or to death from infections. We estimated genetic and shared environmental influences separately on the risk of acquiring an infection (incidence) and on dying from it (case fatality). METHODS Genetic influences were estimated by the association between r...
متن کاملExcess Mortality Rate During Adulthood Among Danish Adoptees
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Adoption studies have been used to disentangle the influence of genes from shared familial environment on various traits and disease risks. However, both the factors leading to adoption and living as an adoptee may bias the studies with regard to the relative influence of genes and environment compared to the general population. The aim was to investigate whether the co...
